At This Time

Happy seedlings awaiting their new home!

At this time we are a month into the rainy season. So far, the rains have been exactly what the crops call for. Nothing too crazy and always enough to keep those little plants and seedlings happy. We are excitedly anticipating fresh organic greens and veggies that will soon fill our plates and bowls. We offered plots of land to our workers and some of them have been planting and caring for their own seedlings as well.

Meggan and Brooke working on the greenhouse

We have two interns who are here to assist us for the month. Such open hearts and willing hands. We are really grateful that Meggan and Brooke chose Project Somos to help out at! After one week, their help has already been indispensable!

We also welcome Andrea, a Tecpaneca (someone from Tecpán) who has just graduated from John Brown University in Arkansas. Andrea will be volunteering with us two days a week for the month of June. Being bilingual and knowing Tecpan and its people so well, Andrea will be a huge assistance to us and we are grateful to have her here.

With our great June Team in place, we are excitedly planning an Open House on June 30th. We will be inviting everyone we have met in the last year. This will be an opportunity for community leaders, business owners and friends to see what we have been doing here since arriving. We will also share what we are working on next and what we need in hopes of gathering local support.

The wall is filling with plaques!

Our “Adopt a Wall” Campaign is still in full force. Over 50 sections have been “adopted” and now plaques hang in honour of each of these donations. Tomorrow we pick up the fruit trees that were ordered. These will be planted this week. We are so grateful to everyone who has participated so far! Each donation helps us keep building AND will feed the children for years to come!
