On August 8th our newest board member, Nicole Geyer, her family and their friends, the Thomson-Stowe family came to Tecpán to volunteer. Over a year ago, Nicole and Paul planned this trip with us. They invited their long-time friends, Marianne and Rob along with their two teenagers. A few days later, Board Chair, Joe Fiorante and his two teenage daughters arrived to join the team.
What amazing progress we make when so many people come together like this! At any given time, there were at least five projects on the go! Paul headed up the electrical wiring in the house we call “Conejo” (hare) with Rob assisting. Nicole and Marianne worked on the painting of the kids’ bedrooms in “Tortuga” (tortoise) and had some of the kids helping out towards the end of the week. The “kids” (teens between 14 and 17); Mack, Thomas, Kirsten and Alexa planted fruit trees and put the irrigation system in place. Joe, Maija and Bella helped with more planting, irrigation and planting.
For Greg and I, it was an amazing week. We felt so loved and so supported by this group. Nicole and Joe are the last of our board members to visit the site. They’ve always been amazingly supportive but now they truly get what this is all about. They have walked the land, they have met the workers, they have rolled up their sleeves and assisted with the progress and we were able to celebrate our progress together. What a gift! My thanks to all or making your way here and for making that such a special and amazing time!
On our final night together we fired up the pizza oven, made some dough, chopped some veggies, grated some cheese and got the assembly line moving! Despite the pouring rain, an amazing time was had by all. We hit a new record that evening-20 pizzas in 45 minutes! Yum! Yum!
