Volunteering

Volunteering in Guatemala with Project Somos

Volunteering abroad is an exciting and often life-changing adventure. It offers opportunities for learning, self-discovery and personal growth.

As we work to establish the Children’s Village, we will need many hands and hearts working together to prepare the property to receive children. We will need help from many different people with many different skill sets. If you’re interested in getting involved with us in Guatemala, read on. It’s going to be lots of work, and tons of fun.

Short-Term Volunteers

If you are looking to volunteer with the Project for less than 1 month, please contact El Camino Voluntours. El Camino organizes short-term volunteer vacations that combine fun excursions in Guatemala with volunteer work that makes real and valuable contributions to projects like Somos. We have formed a partnership with El Camino that will allow us to accomodate short-term volunteers. Please visit their website for more information: www.voluntours.ca.

Chris Buckshaw from El Camino will also able to organize customized excursions for small groups, and, once the village site has been properly secured, families.

Long-Term Volunteers

Currently, we do not have any long-term volunteer positions available.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you are able to commit to volunteering with us for four weeks or more, you will be considered a long-term volunteer.  Long-term volunteers will work six hours per day, five days per week, for a minimum of one month. Volunteers will be provided with basic accommodations and simple, primarily vegetarian food. In exchange for room and board, volunteers will be asked to pay $500/month + $100 for insurance, and make a one-time donation of $500 toward the Project (tax deductible receipts issued for Canadians and Americans). The donations provided by long-term volunteers will be a huge asset in the development of the village. They will also help insure we have supplies for the projects upon which the volunteers will work while in Guatemala. Donations will vary for longer stays.
There are many exciting and innovative ways that you can raise this money which will be a huge asset to the development of the Village. Visit the following sites to get some inspiration and ideas:
