I met Christina way back in 2008 when we lived just off of Main Street in Vancouver, BC. She lived just a few doors up from us and I felt an overwhelming urge to knock on her door after seeing, day after day, handmade dolls in a room in her house. Curiosity just got the better of me. I think that was the first and only time I have ever done something like that. Funny how some things are just meant to be…
Fast forward six years and Christina has a hugely successful cottage industry in which she employs dozens of women over in Cobble Hill on Vancouver Island. Yes! She is the founder and head honcho of Bamboletta Dolls!
Bamboletta Dolls is truly an inspirational company and a beautiful example of how business can be run when so much heart is put into it. Christina and her team make up to 80 Waldorf-inspired dolls every week. The dolls sell out within minutes of going “live” on line. Team Bamboletta regularly makes dolls for different charitable causes and Project Somos was the most recent recipient of Bamboletta love!
Christina and her team made seven sets of Piccolina (10 inch tall) twins. The dolls were auctioned off online in support of Project Somos. One doll from each set went to the successful bidder and the other doll came back to Guatemala with us. The auction was very exciting to witness and there were dozens of people bidding on each set! In total $1600 was raised in support of Somos! How awesome is that?!
Today Juanita and Gabriela met the seven Piccolinas. It was love at first sight. Each of our kids will eventually receive a doll but to start, they are slowly being introduced to them and learning how to care for these special dolls. The girls were excited to learn that if you listen very careful, these magical dolls will share secrets with you!
