Hi, my name is Rosario and I have been working for the Project for three years. I am married, I have three boys and Project Somos has taught me to value the time I spend with them. At the beginning I was very hard on my eldest child, but I learned that we have to give space to our children to be children.
I cannot give a specific name, but each child that I have worked with has taught me to value the time I spend with my own children. At the beginning I felt sad that I would have to leave my own children to go to work, but then I realized that the time I would provide for my own children was quality time.
I began to give the children at Project Somos the time their parents were not able to give them. That makes me feel better because I know I am doing something for our children here, I can show them a different world.
They learn that the opportunities are not limited to the community they belong to but that there is a whole world outside that they can discover. It is amazing to show them a book that becomes a window to a new world and that they have the capacity to change their lives.
Some children want to do the same job their parents do, they think that their lives are limited to become bricklayers, housewives, weavers, etc. And we know that they can continue studying and become an architect, or chef or anything else they want to become when they are adults.
It’s like we are constantly opening a door to a better future.
I am very proud to be part of the change! And I am very thankful for the opportunity that Somos gave me to work with the children!
Thank you for being an important part of Project Somos.
Rosario
