“Being part of the cooking training program has not only taught me to cook with new and nutritious ingredients but to socialize, meet new women, and leave a footprint on the Project.” Blanca is the 1st student in the cooking training program.
There are a lot of new recipes that I have learned how to cook. I remember months ago when my kids arrived home smiling, telling me they ate “frittata” (Baked eggs with veggies), lentils, chickpeas, and other things. I hadn’t heard of or tried those ingredients before, and I couldn’t provide my kids with this kind of nutritious food since my family couldn’t afford them; sometimes, there wasn’t enough money at home to provide for my children. I was frustrated and sad for not being able to do better for them.
So, when I heard about the cooking training program, I didn’t hesitate for a second, and I signed up for it. Initially, I was nervous and afraid since I hadn’t left home for work since the pandemic, but the sun started shining when I met Yolanda and the students.
I was not only learning how to cook but also earning some money to provide food and clothes for my kids. Also, while working on the Project, my kids were playing, learning, and eating nutritious food; what else can I ask for! I am grateful for all the people working for the community, especially for caring for Guatemalan kids.
When I come to Project Somos, I feel at home, safe, and loved, and my kids feel the same way. Thank you to all the people who make this possible; many lives are being touched.

I am thankful to hear this good news and know that Somos is able to help in this way. I hope many mothers will be able to have this training and experience to the benefit of their families and themselves.
Blessings,
