Maria Alicia Choc
Ali is the Preschool Teacher at the Childrens’ Village. She teaches 3 to 6 year olds and has a young son of her own. She came to Project Somos after working with preschoolers in Camino Seguro and lives Santo Domingo Xenacoj.
“I love my work and ‘my’ children at Project Somos,” she says. “I can speak my first language here, Kaqchikel, and wear my traditional dress. The atmosphere is great: you can feel the peace and tranquility, breathe the pure air, and show the children how we can coexist with nature, including cultivating our own food.”
Marelyne Ramírez
Marelyne es la terapeuta del Proyecto Somos. Ella creció en una casa llena de amor con disciplina y valores morales a lo largo de su vida. Ella es un graduado del programa de educación temprana y ama la interacción con los niños.
Marelyne trabajó como maestra de preescolar mientras terminaba su licenciatura en psicología y discapacidades de aprendizaje. Ha trabajado en diferentes instituciones ayudando a niños con trastornos de la alimentación, discapacidades del desarrollo, audición y niños con autismo. También ha ayudado a niños y adolescentes con problemas emocionales y antes de unirse al Proyecto Somos, trabajó como consejera escolar en una escuela privada en Tecpan.
El enfoque terapéutico de Marelyne con el Proyecto Somos es guiar a las madres del proyecto a dar amor y disciplina no corporal a sus hijos mientras les enseña a superar conflictos de violencia familiar y cultural en sus vidas y ayudar a los niños en su integración familiar, escuela y áreas sociales.
A Marelyne le gusta caminar, leer, ver películas con su familia, leer a su hija y escuchar música.
Marla Ruiz
Marla is the Social Enterprise Coordinator at Project Somos. A “proud Tecpaneca», Marla loves her culture and its customs, so is a natural to work with the volunteers who visit.
Marla has been with Project Somos for several years, “understanding the importance of the project, not only to help the families, but to teach (and learn) respect for our elders, for Nature, and for our neighbours.”
Marla has a young daughter, Adriana.
