Do you want to make a difference in the world?
With the current state of the world, it can sometimes feel discouraging and confusing about how to make a difference. Many of us are left wondering if there is anything we can do as an individual. At Project Somos we have a variety of volunteer opportunities that allow you to come immerse yourself in a nurturing community where you can make an impact. Project Somos believes in providing local employment to ensure that visiting volunteers never take work away from Guatemalans. Instead, we focus on volunteers enriching and contributing to the team and the programming here at the Project.
Join a community of volunteers who are doing amazing things in Guatemala at Project Somos Learning Village.
Project Somos started welcoming volunteers in 2011. Since then, we have received over 500 volunteers from at least fifteen countries!
Located in the Central Highlands of Guatemala, between Antigua and Lake Atitlan, the Project Somos Learning Village is located in a small community, 8 km from the town of Tecpan, Chimaltenango. Check out Project Somos on Google Earth. With a view of forested canyons and eight volcanoes in the distance, the site is breathtaking.
We have a variety of volunteer experiences available. Have a peek to see what might best suit you!
Long-Term Volunteers stay a minimum of six weeks. Live and work on-site with other long-term volunteers.
Short-Term/ Student Volunteer Groups come as a group and generally arrive on a Sunday afternoon and leave the following Saturday morning. Participate in day to day activities at the Project and stay on-site with the rest of their group.
DIY (Design it Yourself) Volunteer Trips are for groups that want to create a unique experience which includes volunteering and something else of interest. We have had singer/songwriters come with their fans and we have also hosted women’s photography retreats. The sky is the limit!
Virtual Volunteers work from home helping with things like literacy and English instruction. We also look for volunteers that can provide administrative support, help with fundraising or grant writing.
